Resident Evil Village: What You Need to Know About the High-Fidelity 3D Graphics Video Game

After three and a half years, the triple-A video game Resident Evil Village has finally set a launch date and recently released a demo where you can experience its stunning 3D graphics.

To be released on 7 May 2021, Resident Evil Village was developed by Capcom on the RE Engine, whose capacity for live-action-like 3D graphics shows in the latest Resident Evil installment.

And with a PlayStation 5, you can already experience the video game’s environment by playing its demo — or “visual showcase” — Maiden.

Resident Evil Village picks up from the story of Ethan Winters in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. And yes, the title is not “Resident Evil 8: Village”. Producers Tsuyoshi Kanda and Peter Fabiano said in an interview that players could regard the Village as another character in the game, says an article in Kotaku.

In Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Ethan and Mia Winters, a secret agent and Ethan’s wife, manage to survive the disastrous effects brought about by the human bioweapon Eveline.

In Resident Evil Village, a counter-terrorism group in the Resident Evil universe abducts Ethan and Mia’s child, sending Ethan into the story that will unfold in the latest installment.

Resident Evil Village’s ‘Maiden’

In Maiden, the character awakes in a cell seemingly underground. After escaping the underground area, they get to explore Castle Dimitrescu, and through hints scattered in the game environment, the player realizes the character is a captive — perhaps one of the help — who either is kidnapped for their blood or is being punished.

The details in the environment are so intensely defined that you cannot help but pause for a minute and wonder whether some of the objects are actually images. Even YouTuber Gab Smolders, in her playthrough, was stunned and thought one of the objects was an image rendered into the game. And the technology that enables this level of definition is Capcom’s RE Engine.

Initially built for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, the proprietary game engine RE Engine boasts advanced rendering and graphical techniques, including a feature that can render hyperrealistic human skin.

Before RE Engine was another game engine developed by Capcom, the MT Framework; however, it lacked the capacity to “[bring] the realistic world pursued by creators in Resident Evil 7 to life,” lead programmer Tomofumi Ishida said in a report.

Based on what the trailer and demo have shown so far, we can certainly be grateful the developers had the foresight to build and use the RE Engine for Resident Evil Village.

Unfortunately for those who could not buy a PlayStation 5, Maiden is available only for this recently released video game console. The good news is the other demo, which will reportedly come out in spring, is available for older consoles.

Fans Are Falling Head Over Heels for the “Tall Vampire Lady”

Now let’s talk about one of the most pivotal elements in the game — the characters. Or more specifically, the “tall vampire lady” named Lady Dimitrescu. Lady Dimitrescu lives in the castle with her daughters, who turn into insects, assailing the maiden in droves.

Lady Dimitrescu, on the other hand, grows Wolverine-like nails and presumably impales the maiden to death. Clearly, the people residing in the castle are monsters — but the Internet has taken a rather peculiar liking for these characters. Let the tweets speak for themselves.

Compared to Resident Evil’s other monsters, Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters take the form of pretty, Gothic women. We know the three young women are Lady Dimitrescu’s daughters because of her phone call with one “Mother Miranda”, the probable boss monster of the game.

However, an article in GamesRadar argues that perhaps the four are not related in a filial sense. Rather, the tall vampire lady might be the power source of the three other women. Whatever the case, we will have to wait until May to uncover the real backstory of the residents of Castle Dimitrescu.

Is the 3D Video Game Resident Evil Village Available Only for the New PS5?

Last year, there has been talk of the new Resident Evil installment being available only on next-gen consoles. An insider said older consoles would not be able to handle the “graphic fidelity” and “load zones” of the game. But recent news has debunked this claim.

Aside from the next-gen consoles, Resident Evil Village will be available on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Fabiano said, “The PS4 version can be upgraded for free to the digital PS5 version. And the Xbox One version gives you free access to the game on XSX through Smart Delivery,” according to an article in GamesRadar.
